Real food

So we've tried giving Mallory rice cereal lately. The first couple of days were tough, she spit most out as she wasn't used to it but it got better. Those efforts have been hampered by a cold as she's been quite cranky and unable to nap. We've got some peas (ick) and green beans waiting for her when she gets the rice cereal down.

We're also working on her sitting skills. She seems to have the strength but just leans forward and won't use her arms to support her. We bought the Bumbo seat long ago and I think its good for before they need to learn balance and after they can already sit on their own but not in between. The problem is that it defeats her learning self-balance.

Notice: Because of Apple's insistence on underserving the people using Windows, you might get an error message that says "Missing a component but that component is not available on our servers." If you still want to watch the clip you'll need to update quicktime by clicking here. It includes iTunes so if you don't install it I understand. I'll try to make the next video updates available in other formats.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter. The family is doing good. We've endured a lot of storms around here and on Friday while having Easter dinner with the family we took a trip into the basement to hide from the tennis ball sized hail. Then we zoomed home and about 10 minutes after we arrived we endured another hail storm which wasn't as bad.

Today we went to church for the first time since having Mallory with some encouragement from our neighbor next door who goes to the same place we do (thanks!). They also work in the nursery every other month so that put our minds at ease. Mallory did great and after church we went to Maggiano's for a "family-style" lunch. We generally avoid going out to eat especially as of late because Ms. Mallory gets bored easily and we can't both relax and eat because one of us has to be holding her doing something. Amazingly after our salads Mallory was cranking but a minute after rocking her in her car seat on the floor she fell asleep! We enjoyed lunch and had a glass of wine, it was divine. I think Mallory was working with our waiter to get a cut of the tip because between the great service he gave us and the nap she took, he got a bonus.

Mallory has been very curious about everything for the past few weeks and would rather be in the mix than laying down in her discovery gym or in her exersaucer. It's pretty neat but it sure requires more energy than just the regular change of a diaper and feeding every 3 hours. She's also getting upset more with foreign faces. She also thinks she should be able to walk before she has to crawl. As most of our neighbors and family can attest, her legs are always going and she likes to stand up.

We've used up enough of your time so go hurry and check out almost 20 new photos on flickr we just uploaded!!

Clothes, bikes and tornados

This week we went to H&M to pick up even more clothes for Mallory. We got some decent clothes but it's so hard to find things she fits into because she's so tall and skinny. Sale shopping seems to be so much easier for kids than it is for adults, maybe that's because they're always on our mind so we stop in to see what bargains are to be had whenever we're near a kids clothing store. Of course now we have more 6-9 month clothes than we know what to do with.

For my upcoming birthday we decided to purchase bikes. Intiially I was set on getting another mac to put in the living room but I realized that it wasn't the best "family" purchase. Now Kris and I can get in shape and then next year we will get a Burley trailer to put Mallory in. Unfortunately she can't ride with us until she's about a year old because her neck won't be strong enough to support her head plus a helmet until then. Kris and I should've bought bikes a long time ago.

Now the weather. Two days ago we had tornados wipe out 40-50 houses in towns not too far South from Indianapolis and tonight we had a tornado on the Northeast side of town near our house. As we heard the tornado sirens go off we kind of took our time and then my sister in law yelled out that the tornado was due at 10:15pm which was in exactly 1 minute. We ran up to get Mallory and we broke down her Pack'n'play as fast as we could as the wind was screaming outside and we all went to the basement. Fortunately nothing happened near us but Mallory had to be woken up and then put back down. Of course she was wide-eyed and talking the whole time and when it was time to go to bed she went right to sleep.

That's all for now...
