I've posted the remaining pics from Thailand that I took. Sorry they took so long. We've been getting readjusted to being back home. The trip home wasn't too bad. I'll have Kris post all about it. Talk to you all soon!

We celebrated the Thai new year with most of the Saipetch family on Sunday. It is kind of like getting together for the Van Gorp 4th of July picnic. The food and tables were outside where it was 100 degrees in the shade, but they did have the AC on inside and they tried to keep the kids inside so they didn't get overheated. I volunteered for Mallory duty ;) They had quite a variety of Thai food and they also had ice cream. Mallory loved the ice cream and was begging everyone for their ice cream. I think the best part was when everyone honors the oldest members of the family. Part of this was Buddist ritual, but I think the theme of honoring the elders was nice and something we don't do enough in America. All the elders, which were mainly 4 ladies who are 90+ years old and one of them is Eddie's Grandma, sat in a row and everyone passed in front of them and greeted them and gave them money. Afterwards, the Grandmas were able to say a few words to everyone. One of Eddie's aunts entertained them with some Thai dancing, which they liked. Then the Grandmas gave money to all the little kids. Mallory got 100 baht ($3) from her Grandma. We have pics of all of this and Ed will be posting them soon. After the New Years celebration, we headed for the beach house. Mallory didn't like the feel of the sand on her feet a first and she was afraid of the water. She did get into the ocean finally and liked it...except for the salt water in her eyes. The water was 80 degrees so it felt like bath water. We will post pics of the beach too. Right now we are trying to pack since we are leaving this evening. We seem to have much more than we came with. We are going to Ed's uncles house for dinner to see Great Grandma one more time before we leave, then heading for the airport. See everyone back in Indy.

Hot Hot Hot

Ok, so I expected it to be hot in Thailand...100 degrees and 100% humidity - but expected to move from one air conditioner to another and that has been the case most of the time. But today, we are going to Ed's uncles house for the Thai new years celebration and it will be OUTSIDE. We will have a tent covering us from the sun, but I expect to be a sweaty pig. No one's house is big enough for all the family. Did I also mention that the celebration is at noon....the hottest part of the day. After we leave his uncle's house, we are heading to the beach house for two nights. I hope it is cooler by the ocean...but I have this feeling it won't be and that there will be no air conditioner at the house. Please send us cool thoughts from Indy...I hear it has been snowing. Yesterday we went for a morning swim in the pool next door and then did some shopping. We went to the "Night Bazzar" It is a great place to shop..hundreds of booths with all kinds of stuff. We picked up some great stuff for ourselves and for our family. Mallory was a handful. She has been a handful this whole trip. We aren't quite sure why...but here are our theories. 1. She is getting over an ear infection 2. She is teething 3. She is in prime separation anxiety mode 4. She is 1.5 years old 5. She is always hungry. For theory #1 - we are giving her an antibiotic that she usually takes without issue, so hopefully that issue is going away #2 she has been drooling non stop. She drenchs all her shirts and everyone is trying to wipe the spit off her chin. We can't give her ibuprofen here because the risk Dengue fever from mosquitos. Grandpa got her some infants tylenol, so that might help. #3 She doesn't want to go to anyone but me and Daddy. I can understand all the new people scaring her...but we have been with Grandma and Grandpa for 10 days now and she still screams if we give her to them. She also flips out when Eddie or I leave a room without her...even if one stays with her. It is driving us crazy...we have a nanny here that could take care of her while we do stuff, but she won't have anything to do with it. #4 At this age...she doesn't understand no and she gets so frustrated that she can't communicate her wants to us. We get frustrated that she won't listen to us. At home, she only used her pacifier for bed time and naps but here, we have been having to give it to her just to make her feel better. And speaking of the passy....she likes to throw it on down on the dirty streets and then gets very upset when we can't give it back to her right away..Argh! #5 The kid has eaten her way through Thailand. She has eaten more here than I have ever seen her eat in the States. And she eats anything. She ate fish balls (like a fish meatball) the other day. We got McDonalds yesterday and she ate an entire cheeseburger herself. Then a couple hours later ate an entire raisin danish. She is a bottomless pit. And let me tell you, when she is hungry...watch out. Get her food fast or you are in for a melt down. Ok, Eddie says I have written enough. We need to pack for the beach. Talk to everyone later.

Good Morning from Thailand

As I write this, Eddie and I are wide awake and Mallory is sleeping hard. (She is sleeping in a crib in our room) It is 6:26am. She is adjusting to the time change much better than Eddie and I. Our problem is that we are taking naps when she does...which is twice a day because it is too hot to do anything else, so we stay in our air conditioned room. I think we are going to try and stay awake during one of her naps today - maybe watch some movies we brought with us. But still, we can't complain...we are enjoying the relaxing. We had to take Mallory to the hospital that Ed's dad works at yesterday to get her ears rechecked. She had an ear infection before we left and we had a feeling that she still had it because she has been very fussy (she is also cutting a couple teeth and is a drool bucket) She still has the ear infection, so we got an antibiotic and some cold medicine to help her ears drain. We hope she is feeling better soon. All she wants to do right now is lay on mommy and dada. We may go shopping at a mall around here today and we are supposed to go to a night market sometime this week. The Thai New Year celebration will be on Sunday. We will be going to Eddie's uncles house to meet a lot of family and have dinner. I think we are leaving for the beach house for a few days after the New Year celebration. We made it!

Believe it or not, we made it. It was a very long flight, but all in all Mallory did pretty well. Most of the people on the plane got some sleep when she did. One thing that kept her occupied were two other little girls. They played between the seats and kept each other occupied. We flew into the new Bangkok airport and Grandpa and Grandma were waiting for us. We went back to Ed's parents new house. (it is beautiful..we will post some pics of it) Mal had her first Thai dinner of rice, fried egg and veggies. She loved it! We went to bed around 8pm and she slept until 6am. Eddie and I could only sleep until about 4am. On Saturday we went to the open market. Mal rode in her backpack on Daddy and had a great time. Everyone thought she was so cute. We couldn't stay too long since it was so hot and humid. We went home for a nap and then went to dinner at Eddie's uncles house. Eddie's cousin lives there also and has a daughter Mals age...so they had fun playing together and trying to share with each other. Mal is really enjoying the fruit here. She has been eating so much they told us to have her slow down in case she has any digestion problems with it. Yesterday alone, she ate 5 bananas (they are half the size of our bananas), mango, pineapple, mangosteen and rambutan. I think we are just going to hang out today and relax. We are planning on going to the beach house next weekend. We hope to post some pictures soon.

Rough Start

For those that don't know...Ed, Mallory and I are traveling to Thailand for two weeks to visit family. Unfortunately, our trip has not started out well. Our plane from Indy to NYC left on time, but right as we were about to take off...the pilot cut the engine and say that there were weather delays in NYC and we were not going to lift off until 2:30. It was 1:15. Needless to say, Mallory did not enjoy this delay and neither did anyone sitting around us. We finally did lift off at 2:30 and she fell asleep on me and slept the whole way. When we got to NYC we had to haul our heavy luggage and Mallory to the hotel. Ed called Thai Airways from the hotel to confirm our seats on the 17 hr. flight to Bangkok and they told us that all three of our seats were in different rows and across the plane from each other....needless to say, this will not work. The person he talked to could not do anything to fix it and told us to try and go early to the gate and get it changed. In the meantime, we called Ed's Dad and asked him to call a relative that works for Thai Airways and see if there is anything he can do to fix the seats. We are getting ready to head to the airport...pray that they got the seats fixed and we have a good flight. Kris

Mallory turns 1!

It's Mallory's birthday today. She spent it at home because she's sick. Being sick on your birthday is no fun. She had a good day though. We played a lot and she enjoyed her day as much as she could. It's amazing what has happened in a year. She is developing her own personality, she eats big-people food, she drinks from a sippy cup, she crawls, she walks, she can stack rings and many many other things. We've been blessed not to have any real complications and she adds a bit of spice to our lives. She's a gem and the most important things in our lives. We love her with all of our heart and thank God for blessing us with an incredible little being.

Fight Club

See how nice and sweet my husband’s previous post was about our girl walking. Well, we have changed our tune. We have spent the past three days playing bumper guard for our baby girl – and by the looks of her, we have failed miserably. She looks like she joined The Fight Club. Couple of things we learned (yes, we are first time parents) 1. Don’t buy that gorgeous concrete slab coffee table from Crate and Barrel because you figured that your kids could bang on it with their toys and try to write on it and it would be ok. Well, the banging comes in the form of baby’s head/mouth/cheek hitting the table as she toddles toward it. 2. Take your childs socks off when she is running around on hardwood floors. Better to have chilly toes than a head banging into the floor. 3. You might want to rethink the wrought iron table and chairs you have. Wrought iron to the back of the head…not so nice. Even with all the head banging….it is so cute to see her walk and it makes her so happy. We are just so nervous every time she stands up. We hold our breath as she walks and we play gate around the coffee table. I am going to try and get a padded bumper for the table and Ed and I are rethinking our baby proofing. Miss Miss has also figured out how to open all the cabinets. Her new favorite game is to see what she can pull out of the cabinet and chew on. I had to make a quick trip to Target to pick up some extra baby proofing cabinet closers. I can’t believe she will be one year old on Wednesday. My how our life has changed. I can’t imagine life without her now. She is our heart walking around outside our bodies.

The girl is walking now. She started taking a step or two over the past week. Tonight she walked from the middle of her room to her vanity which was at LEAST 10-12 steps. She's so giddy and has a huge smile on her face when she takes off. Her momma and daddy are so proud of her. She turns one in five days. It's simply amazing.

Pumpkin Patch

We took Mallory out for her first time to a pumpkin patch. We've noticed she doesn't dig crowds much so it takes her a little while to warm up and be herself. She really just sits there and takes it all in. In other news she's starting to take her first steps by herself. She's also eating us out of house and home. We took my brother-in-law out to eat and she ate half of a kids meal of cheese ravioli, a few bites of bruschetta, some bread and part of a mozarella stick. Her first birthday comes up soon too so she's got some busy days ahead of her.

Hey folks, Let me tell you, I got my first tooth. I'm 9 months old and it finally came in. I was ready to buy dentures because all the other kids were getting teeth. Oh and I'm probably going to skip crawling. Scooting around is much more fun and toying with my parents emotions while they try to get me to crawl is just too funny. I also know how to give kisses and wave good-bye. Mom and dad also took me to the toy store to get me better toys because the ones I had before just weren't cutting it for an advanced girl like me. Talk to you all soon... -- Mallory P.S. Dad quit his job at The Indianapolis Star and got a different one where he's traveling more. He's enjoying it though.
